Preston College: Friday Workshops

I’ve been brushing up on my handbuilding skills at Preston this term.  Okay, I won’t be opening my shop on Etsy just yet, but it’s been very useful and most enjoyable.

Pinched, slab built and press moulded ceramics

Pinch and coiled hen, slab built box and vase, the rest press moulded.  The tutor, Natalie, made a comment that the slip decoration on the box reminded her of tartan, from which I started investigating vessels based on the kilt form.  But, term is short and I didn’t have time to make any. I can see that coiling coupled with modelling could be used for large figurative sculptures.

Bowls and beaker: stoneware with brown and blue glazes
